Dear Smith School Families,
I hope that you have enjoyed the 90° temperatures we had in July, and were able to enjoy plenty of rest, as well as some family time. For those of you who love the hot weather, this has been your year. I can hardly believe how quickly the time has passed this summer. As most of you are aware, Mr. Sturm, our former assistant principal, is now the principal at Bugbee School here in West Hartford. In mid-July, we convened a team consisting of three teachers, two parents, and myself to assist with interviewing for our new assistant principal.
I am very happy to announce that as of August 23rd, Ms. Clare Kennedy will be joining the Smith School community as the new assistant principal. Ms. Kennedy has been an educator in West Hartford since 1988. She has been a Special Education teacher, grades PK-5, and for the past eight years has been an administrator/supervisor in the Pupil Services/Special Education department. Some of you may even know her as she was a Special Education supervisor at Smith School before I arrived. Ms. Kennedy comes to us with a wealth of experience, and is looking forward to beginning her new life at Smith and working in our community. She is a hands-on person who will quickly adjust to the activity level and wonderful culture in our school.[Full Column]
